Sources

Every source GINC Defence draws on, with its licence and the date it was read.

The identifier spine is Wikidata (CC0). Holdings come first from the officially published inventories, then from the Wikipedia equipment lists (CC BY-SA 4.0), then from the SIPRI Arms Transfers Database, of which only derived figures are published. Warheads and strategic delivery systems come from the SIPRI Yearbook and the FAS Nuclear Notebook only. Headcounts come from official personnel statistics, white papers, annual reports and parliamentary documents, with Wikipedia as an estimate and the World Bank’s armed forces total as a check.

Not used: the IISS Military Balance and Janes, which are licensed, Forecast International, and GlobalFirepower, which is not a source.

Every source below links to the version that was read.

Complete official inventory as at 1 April 2026. count = Total; in_service = 'In Service' (held at readiness; for aircraft, forward/active fleet) where the tables give it (vessels Table 1, fixed-wing/UAS Table 7, rotary Table 8). Land equipment (Table 5, not Accredited Official Statistics; excludes training/ceremonial vehicles) gives totals only. Vessels are by type, not class. Table 5 combat-support lines outside the taxonomy are omitted: Falcon 57 (comms), Heavy Equipment Transporter 161, Hippo

Official counts by service at 31 Dec 2025 (Armée de Terre, Marine nationale, Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace). Counts are 'en dotation' with no in-service/stored split, except the Marine note that 4 SSN are in service and a 5th is delivered and undergoing acceptance, and that 42 Rafale Marine exist (41 with the Navy, 1 with Dassault). Ships are given by type, not class; class mapping is ours where a single class fits. The booklet gives no counts for Army engineer/bridging vehicles beyond EBG and V

No single official German inventory list exists. Exact holdings of Großgerät, including the readiness report on Hauptwaffensysteme, have been classified since 2019. Government answers to Kleine Anfragen refuse inventory figures as 'VS-Geheim' or 'VS-NfD': Drs. 20/10018 (artillery) and 20/14982 do this, and Drs. 21/8248 is a question with no answer yet. The figures below are therefore taken from individual bundeswehr.de equipment, unit and news pages, from the ZMSBw, and from the BMVg Rüstungsber

  • US Navy fact files (navy.mil); CNAF Aircraft Carrier Embark Brief 2025; USAF fact sheets (af.mil); 2026 Marine Corps Aviation Plan (Department of Defense (US Navy, US Air Force, US Marine Corps))

Official publication (Open Government Licence or public domain where stated) · hand-entered from the publication

No single official US equipment inventory is published. navy.mil's 'Status of the Navy' battle-force page is no longer online (Resources/Status-of-the-Navy returns an empty shell), so Navy ships are counted from navy.mil class fact files that list named in-service hulls (dates vary 2018-2026), plus carriers from the 2025 CNAF embark brief (11 CVNs; 297 deployable battle force ships as of 2025-01-17). For context only, the FY2027 Shipbuilding Plan (May 2026, Table A1-5) projects end-FY27 battle f

  • Air Force, Navy, Army and Defence official websites (aircraft, ships and project pages) plus Defence news and Ministerial releases (Department of Defence)

Counts come only from Australian Government sites: airforce.gov.au, navy.gov.au, army.gov.au, defence.gov.au and minister.defence.gov.au. Many service pages carry no date. For those, as_of is the date accessed (2026-11-02), and the note says the page is undated. Ship counts are the commissioned HMAS hulls named on the navy.gov.au 'Ships, boats and submarines' listing, read 2026-11-02. Army pages on army.gov.au give almost no quantities, so Army counts come from Defence project pages and releases
